According to the recent researches, an infant gets ready to consume foods apart from the boundary of mother’s milk only after a few remarkable developments have taken place in the body, especially in the brain & CNS. Out of the developments the major ones are the assisted sitting ability, control over the cranial movement & gaining of weight double at the time of the birth. And in general studies of embryology as well as pediatrics we see that it takes around 4 to 6 months from the time of the birth. And this is time when a kid starts eating, digesting & absorbing food particles.

Stages of Baby Food

The stages of baby food can be divided primarily into three stages –

Stage 1

Four to six months is stage one. In this stage, breast milk is the best option. Besides this, you can introduce vegetables and fruit puree. A high source of iron rich food is important at this stage.

Stage 2

Six to eight months is the second stage. Till six months, babies are introduced to cereals and puree. But after six months, introduction to additional food is a plus point. Food with thicker consistency will satisfy the appetite. Mix the food with breast milk or water. Avoid cow’s milk or soya milk for a while as they are not healthy as they claim to be. Also, give mashed foods like pumpkin or sweet potatoes.

Stage 3 or Last stage

Eight to ten months is the last stage. In this stage, the introduction to food chunks is necessary. Feed softened up fruit, eggs in small bits, and finger foods like pasta, cheese, and cereals for a year-old baby.

Introducing new food is highly recommended by pediatricians as they help in checking any allergies. Many babies can be lactose intolerant thus it is important to identify the signs.

Food for older babies

For older babies, there are more than 50 different varieties of pre-prepared meals & foods available. They include products like yogurt, cookies, freeze fruits, whole grains, spaghetti, pan cakes, wafers & so on. This list is so big that it can easily fill the entire page. And not to mention these foods are ideal items for school tiffin or meal box. Even protein is one of the highly essential elements in the rapid growth if the infant. And a few of the kid friendly protein products are beef, fish, peanut butter, Tofu, etc.
